5Q 2023 - 2024

Miss Quigg

Welcome to 5Q!

This year your class teacher is Miss Quigg.

In year 5, we split into groups for English and Math. Your English teachers are Miss Quigg, Miss Ball and Mrs Shepherd. Your Math teachers are Miss Quigg, Mr Blundell and Mrs Young.

We will also have Mr Malkin teaching History, Miss Usher teaching PE and Mrs Shepherd teaching French!

We are very excited to welcome you into the classroom!

Homework books with a retrieval task relating to a recent learning topic will be distributed each Friday and should be completed and returned by Tuesday.

Mathematics can be practised using: https://www.mymaths.co.uk/

Spelling homework will be set via Spelling Shed. https://www.edshed.com/en-gb/login/school

Timestables practice: https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/18591

If homework has not been set in the Homework Book, please check SeeSaw as an alternative task may have been assigned. All other learning communications and updates will also be posted on SeeSaw: https://app.seesaw.me/#/student/login

Remember, 3 Dojos are awarded for each completed homework!

Please send reading bags into school every day so we can ensure your child has an appropriate book to support their comprehension and fluency.

We encourage reading every night to support your child’s learning. When your child reads, record and sign this in their reading record. A reading reward sticker will be given to every child that has read at least five nights every week for 10 minutes. Reading records are monitored on Fridays. Pupils are invited to complete an Accelerated Reader Quiz each time they finish a book. As well as physical books borrowed from school pupils can log in to the Liverpool Library (free to register: https://liverpool.overdrive.com/library/kids) to read a selection of  E-Books from home.

10 top tips for parents to support children to read

Your support with reading is greatly appreciated!

For Spring 1, 5Q will have PE on Monday afternoons. PE kits must be in accordance with school our uniform. Please label PE kits and water bottles to prevent items getting lost.

If you are informed that our class is scheduled for swimming lessons:

- Swimming caps are required to enter the pool.

- Goggles are advised for your childs comfort in the water.

Other queries

If you have any questions throughout the year, I am always available to speak to at the end of each school day.

I look forward to us working together,

Miss Quigg.
