  • Year 6 - JW

    Welcome to 6JW

Miss Walker and Mrs Johnson are your class teachers. In Year 6, we split into groups for English and Maths.

Your English and Maths teachers are Miss Walker, Mrs Johnson and Miss Roussarie.

This term, we have swimming every Monday afternoon. Please make sure your child brings their swimming kit each week.

On Mondays, children may come to school wearing their PE kit.

    Homework

Homework is set every Friday on Century AI and should be completed by the following Tuesday. Your child’s login details can be found in their Reading Record.

Spelling lists will be sent home every Friday. Please practise these at home ready for our spelling test the following Friday.

Regular times table practice is encouraged using Times Tables Rock Stars:

Remember, 3 Dojos are awarded for each completed homework!

    Reading

Please send reading bags into school every day so that we can ensure your child has an appropriate book to support their comprehension and fluency.

We encourage children to read every night to support their learning. Whenever your child reads at home, please record and sign this in their Reading Record.

    Reading Superstars

Children should aim to read on at least 5 out of 7 nights each week.

    Children who achieve this will:

    • earn 3 Dojos

    • receive a Reading Superstar stamp in their Reading Record

    • work towards earning a Reading Superstar bookmark each half term

    • be invited to our termly Reading Superstar Film for consistently achieving their weekly reading target

Reading Records are monitored regularly, so please ensure they are brought into school each day.

    Accelerated Reader

Each time your child finishes a book, they will be invited to complete an Accelerated Reader Quiz to check their understanding.

Children can also access a wide selection of free e-books from home through Liverpool Libraries. It is free to register:

    PE & Swimming

For Autumn Term 1, Year 6 will have PE (swimming) every Monday afternoon.

On Mondays, children may come to school wearing their PE kit. PE kit must be in accordance with our school uniform policy.

Please ensure your child brings their swimming kit every Monday, including:

    • Appropriate swimwear

    • Swimming cap – required to enter the pool

    • Goggles – recommended for your child’s comfort in the water

    • Towel

Please clearly label all PE kit, swimming items and water bottles with your child’s name to help prevent belongings from getting lost.
