    PE at The Beacon

At The Beacon, we aim to deliver a high-quality physical education curriculum that is accessible and inspiring for all pupils, promoting achievement and excellence in competitive sports and physical activities. Our PE programme, combined with our INSPIRE Plus extracurricular offerings, helps children build physical confidence while supporting their health and fitness. Through both lessons and extracurriculars, pupils develop teamwork, resilience, and values like fairness, respect, and our school’s Christian ethos.

In EYFS, children work on fine and gross motor skills, participating in basic team and individual games. Each half term, they learn about a different athlete, exposing them to diverse role models. In Key Stage 1, pupils build foundational skills across a range of sports, preparing them for more complex games and competitive events in Key Stage 2. We offer a wide variety of sports, including unique experiences like skiing lessons, where pupils learn essential techniques such as balance, movement, and stopping.

Our INSPIRE Plus programme provides diverse, high-quality extracurricular sports clubs each half term, led by specialist coaches. Activities range from basketball to swimming, and an Active Playground lunchtime club promotes continuous physical activity. After-school clubs change each term to provide varied experiences throughout the year.

We have strong partnerships with local clubs, including Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs and LSSP, to support talented pupils in pursuing their interests. Regular participation in Cross Country events, a recent school-wide fun run in Everton Park, and competitions through the Liverpool Schools Sports Partnership underscore our commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle.

Our intra-school competitions give pupils the chance to apply and showcase skills developed throughout the year, fostering both individual growth and school spirit.

We are proud that at The Beacon, all children from Year 1 to 6 attend weekly swimming lessons for one term per academic year.
