Reception Tadpoles, froglets and frogs

Lesson: Understanding the World

During Summer 1 we were lucky enough to get 15 tadpoles! We have thoroughly enjoyed watching how our tadpoles moved, finding out what they liked to eat (their favourite being cooked spinach) and learning how to care for them. We were so excited when we saw our tadpoles changing. First two tiny back legs, then bigger legs which started to move. Our tadpoles then got two front limbs and enjoyed sitting on the rocks and learning how to breathe oxygen. They also became carnivous and they started to eat bloodworms. Over half-term, some of our froglets lost their tails and became tiny frogs, so our tiny frogs went back to the pond where they were spawned. Summer 2 will see our last tadpoles make their transition from tadpole to froglet to finally frogs and we will wish them luck on their new life in the big pond!
